Robot-guided Interventions

In neurointervention, the hands of the physician usually control instruments such as wires or catheters. Recent technological advances have enabled interesting developments in the neurointerventional suite.

CorPath GRX Neurovascular is a robot that allows the physician to control the instruments via a touchscreen and joystick with high precision. During the procedure, the surgeon is in a radiation-protected cockpit located in the procedure room or in a control room. Inselspital is the first center in Switzerland to offer robot-assisted surgery for selected diseases.

The pictures show a robot-assisted intervention of a brain aneurysm. The interventional neuroradiologist controls the movements of the microwire and the microcatheter with a joystick from outside the operating room.
