Spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH) is an often debilitating clinical picture that is based on a disturbance of the well-regulated balance in the cerebrospinal fluid compartment. The trigger for the continuous loss of CSF is usually an osteodiscogenic microspur (calcified disc protrusion or spondylophyte) that penetrates the dura or a leaking nerve root cuff diverticulum.
